My Big Fat Guangxi Honeymoon
Chapter 9. Honeymoon Memories.
After finishing up the republishing of My Big Fat Guangdong Wedding in March, I was planning to take a break before tackling the Big Fat Guangxi Honeymoon. Still, I wanted to get at least a couple of chapters done, and it just kept going.
Like the wedding, I did have to take some pics of the stuff I’d acquired. Unlike the wedding, this was a very small number of additional pics. Even so, it was a lot of work. If getting married and having a honeymoon in China isn’t quite enough to turn you into a Lunatic, try doing a blog with photos. ![]()

Some people think I’m “Way Out” 🙂
One oddity of my honeymoon memories. When I first wrote My Big Fat Guangxi Honeymoon over at Raoul’s China Saloon just after it happened in 2011, I don’t recall there being nearly so many typos.
I think I fixed at least half of them and hopefully didn’t add too many new ones.
In terms of EscapedLunatic.com, I think I’m going to plow ahead and get Mission: Second Honeymoon done next. There’s a reason for this. We got married and had the first honeymoon in 2011. The second honeymoon was in 2013. My darling wife isn’t a math genius, but she’s noticed that there’s a pattern, so is sort of expecting a 3rd honeymoon sometime soon. Naturally, since I don’t want to die painfully I want to make her very happy, so I’m considering where we can go.
Heading back to Yangshuo could be fun. West Street still has unexplored Lunacy to be checked out.

West Street – I have no idea what’s up with this
Plus, now that we know where the grocery stores are, we can skip buying too much at places like this.

Local Foods at Special Prices for Tourists
And there are still some other priceless items we need to get prices on.

Cart full of priceless cultural relics
And this time, we can cross-check those prices at the 2 yuan store. Also, there are still places we haven’t checked out. For example, I’ve got photos of this tower, but don’t know what it really is.

Some sort of tower on a hill over Yangshuo
Knowing one’s way around a town makes a huge difference in how much one can see. We now know our way around Yangshuo, and know where things like real grocery stores are hidden. In a new place, we wouldn’t have all those previous honeymoon memories to help out.
On the other hand, China is so big and there’s so much we haven’t seen yet. We’ll probably do the 3rd honeymoon in the fall, so you’ll have to wait until then to find out where we went. While we’re all waiting, I’ll try to get started on the 2nd Honeymoon re-write.
September 2018 update: I’ve uploaded all the Big Fat Guangxi Honeymoon pictures directly to my web hosting site. It took awhile, but I finally finished editing all the pages in the Second Honeymoon to point to those, Next, I’m going to finish all the remaining blog posts and then deal with fixing the photos for Mission: Second Honeymoon.
Oh, and one quick spoiler for you. We haven’t done Honeymoon 3.0 yet, but we did do Honeymoon 2.1 in 2017. I’ll probably do an abbreviated version at Raoul’s before doing the grand photo version here.
