A New Dining Hall Needs a Cantonese Feast

My sector of the village (North Gate) recently finished constructing a new dining hall.  How to celebrate?  How about a huge Cantonese feast?

The old HQ and dining hall was a little dated, so we built a new one.

North Gate Sector New HQ and Dining Hall

Sector HQ is on the second floor in the projecting box above the columns.  The dining hall is most of the first and second floors (capable of holding over 100 tables at 10 people per table), plus room for a few dozen more tables outside.  A few days later, things were a little more finished than the above picture shows.  Then it was finally time to fire up the brand new kitchen and invite everyone in North Gate Sector (including a certain Lunatic) to come down to the new building for dinner a Cantonese feast.

Here’s an interior shot to give some idea of how much space the new place has.

The new sector dining hall has 2 levels.

We ended up on the second floor, which was great for me, since it let me take some good pics from above.

After I was done eating (and drinking ), I ran back to the kitchen to see how things were going.  That’s where I finally got a good chance to photograph a portable version of a Cantonese feast (the carts didn’t stop by my table long enough for me to take a good pic).

FOOD! Lots and lots of FOOD!

I also slipped out back to see what else was going on.  There, I met the pretty girls on the Goose Disassembly Team.

My What Big Knives You Have!

They seemed so warm and friendly, but those big sharp butcher knives made me just a little bit nervous.

I am glad the new HQ and dining hall has been finished.  Dinners for Dragon Boat Festival had been getting a little crowded in the old dining hall.

Escaped Lunatic

I've been fascinated by China for as long as I can remember. I took a teaching position in Dongguan in 2006-2007 and fell in love with the people and the country. I packed up and moved to China in 2010. I got married to a lovely Chinese lady in 2011. I got my Chinese green card in 2018. For me, life in China is a fun adventure. I hope you enjoy reading about it.
