I am Stripy Emperor.  Greetings to my fellow felines and to any humans who decide to read this.

You may have noticed some major behavior changes lately with your humans. They are probably going out less. Fewer guests are coming over. Many humans are putting on masks before going outside. A few are even wearing them inside. Humans always stare at their phones for hours.  Now, the don’t have the usual blank expression on their faces. Instead, they appear worried while looking at their phones.

猫咪们，你们可能注意到最近你们的人类行为上发生了一些重大变化。他们很少外出，来拜访的客人也很少，出门前戴上口罩，有些人甚至在家里也戴着口罩。他们总是长时间盯着手机，脸上没有了往常的那种茫然表情，相反他们显得很担忧。

I was discussing the virus outbreak with one of my humans. I decided to put a guest post on his blog to help end some of the misunderstandings cats may be having with their humans.  I’m also going to propose how cats can help.

What Is The 2019 Novel Coronavirus

It is a viral disease that has made a large number of humans sick. Not as many as the flu, but many more than in similar Coronavirus outbreaks. Numbers will change over time, but right now, it has killed about 2% of the humans infected. Most of the cases and the majority of the deaths have been in Hubei. Outside of Hubei the current mortality rate from the disease is much lower than inside Hubei.

它是一种病毒性疾病，已经感染了很多人，虽然没有流感那么多，但比类似的冠状病毒要多。随着时间的推移，感染人数还会发生变化，目前的死亡率是2%。大部分确诊和死亡病例发生在湖北，湖北以外地区的病死率远远低于湖北。

The government in China and many other governments around the world are working very hard to contain this coronavirus. Since it is a new virus, it will take time to control it and then more time to eliminate it.

中国和世界上许多国家的政府都在努力控制这个冠状病毒。因为这是一种新病毒，控制需要点时间，消灭它则需要更长的时间。

I think 2019 Novel Coronavirus is also going to win an award for the virus with the most boring name. Please send your suggestions for a better name to your local Cat Community Office. Good suggestions will be forwarded to the World Health Organization. I’ve already suggested “Stupid Virus that wrecked my chances to send my humans out of the country so I could throw wild cat parties” as a name.

我认为2019新型冠状病毒这个名称将获得最无聊名称奖。请猫咪们把你们的取名建议发送到当地的猫咪社区办公室，好的建议将提交给世界卫生组织。我已经建议用“愚蠢的病毒毁了我把人类送出国的机会，不然我可以开猫咪狂欢派对”作为名字。

Update:  The World Health Organization decided on an even more boring name.  The disease is now called Covid-19.

Does The Virus Affect Cats?
这个病毒会感染猫吗？

Absolutely not. Cats have a better immune system than mere humans.  There are a small number of dreaded diseases that cats are vulnerable to, like FPV, but we cats are affected by far fewer viruses than humans. There have been tens of thousands of cases of this new disease in humans and not one case in cats or even in dogs.

绝对不会。猫拥有比人类更强大的免疫系统。不过有一小部分可怕的疾病是猫容易感染的，比如FPV。但是我们猫感染的病毒比人类少得多。目前已经有成千上万的人类感染了这个病毒，而在猫和狗身上还没有一例。

Just to be very safe, I recommend against letting humans cough on you. Also, for the duration of this emergency, do not scratch or bite any humans, unless absolutely necessary.

为了安全起见，不要让人类对着你咳嗽。此外，在这段非常时期，除非绝对必要，不要抓、咬任何人类。

Cats Can’t Catch This Virus. Why Should Cats Care?
既然猫感染不了这种病毒，为什么要关心人类?

As cats, we pride ourselves on being completely indifferent to human problems. That works well when it’s only one human having a problem. When too many humans have problems at the same time, that can have a bad effect on our status as the pampered leaders of our households.

作为猫，我们为自己对人类的问题完全漠不关心而感到自豪。当只有一个人有问题时，这完全没问题。但当太多的人同时出现问题时，这会对我们作为娇生惯养的家庭领导者的地位产生负面影响。

Most cats have humans to cater to them. Who is going to bring you your cat food if your humans get put in quarantine or die? Who will clean your litter box?

Beyond food and litter box cleaning, core parts of our lifestyle will be disrupted. What fun will it be to block the view of the TV if no one is watching it? Whose faces will we walk on early in the morning? Whose toes will we bite at 2 AM? Who will be annoyed when we knock things off tables?

除了食物和猫砂盆，我们生活的核心也将被打乱。试想如果没有人看电视，挡住看电视的视线还会有什么乐趣呢？清晨我们能踩谁的脸呢？或者凌晨2点我们又能咬谁的脚趾呢？还有当我们把东西从桌子上推下去的时候，谁会生气呢？

Don’t forget there are humans outside your house that you depend on. Humans who make cat food. Humans who make cat litter. Humans who make the cardboard boxes we love so much. Right now, fewer humans are delivering cat food and cat litter. There is enough cat food in the house for a few more weeks, but cat litter is running out. One of my humans has several orders placed, but the deliveries have been delayed.

别忘了你还要依赖你屋子以外的人类。比如生产猫粮的人类、生产猫砂的人类、生产我们非常喜爱的纸箱的人类。现在受病毒的影响，运输猫粮和猫砂的人少了很多。我家里的猫粮还能维持几个星期，但猫砂快用完了。我的人类已经下了好几个订单，但受病毒的影响发货都推迟了。

What Can Cats Do?

I have some advice for my fellow cats that will be very hard for most of you to accept.

我给猫咪伙伴们提点建议，可能你们中大多数会觉得很难接受。

We cats sometimes give humans a little affection to help train them to cater to our needs. Right now, our humans are very stressed, which is unhealthy for them. We need them as healthy and strong as possible so that their human immune systems can fight hard. We need to do something about this.

有时我们猫会对人类展示感情，以此训练人类满足我们的需求。现在我们的人类受病毒影响，正承受着巨大的压力，这对他们的健康很不利。我们需要他们尽可能的健康和强壮，这样他们的免疫系统才能与病毒进行艰苦的斗争。因此我们要做点什么。

This is an extreme situation, so we must do something extreme. Yes, my fellow cats. I am saying the time has come to take the most radical step ever. I know it will be hard, since it against our nature. For the duration of this emergency, if we want to keep our humans safe and healthy, we must be nice to our humans.

这是一个极端时期，所以我们必须做一些极端的事情。是的，猫咪伙伴们，我是说，现在是做有史以来最激进的事情的时候了。我知道这很难，因为这违背了我们的天性。但在这场危机中，我们如果想保证人类健康平安，就必须善待人类。

Cuteness helps – 可爱的帮助

Spend less time ignoring your humans. Spend less time giving humans judgmental looks. Try to relieve some of their stress by nuzzling them and purring for them, When your humans are asleep, skip the toe biting and stepping on their faces.  Curl up next to them instead. They are border from staying home for so many days. Help your humans deal with boredom by playing with them.

不要忽视你的人类，少给他们评判的眼神。试着用鼻子蹭他们、为他们呼噜呼噜，来减轻他们的压力。他们睡觉时，不要再咬他们的脚趾或踩他们的脸，而是温柔地蜷缩在他们身边。他们待在家里那么多天，一定很无聊。和他们一起玩耍，消除他们的无聊。

Pretend you are next to another cat – 假装你在另一只猫旁边

Try to train your humans.  Nuzzle and purr loudly when your humans wash their hands.  If one of your humans is about to go outside without a mask, stand next to where the masks are kept and meow as loudly as you can.

试着训练你的人类养成好的习惯。他们洗手时，用鼻子蹭他们并发出响亮的呼噜声鼓励他们。如果你的人类准备不戴口罩出门，站在口罩旁边，尽可能大声地喵喵叫提醒他们。

Prepare to train humans – 准备训练人类

I know this will be hard advice for cats to take. I also know that, as cats, the indifference is only there to cover up the fact that we really love our humans, even though we’d never admit it. Let a little more of that love show through to help keep your humans safe and healthy.

我知道这些对猫来说很难接受。我也知道，作为猫，冷漠只是为了掩盖我们真正爱人类的事实，尽管我们从不承认。现在是时候让那份爱展现出来，帮助你的人类渡过难关，保证他们健康平安。

You can always chew up their shoes after the crisis is over.
