Facing the Reaper

Facing the Reaper

My First Experience with Carolina Reaper

Recently, my beautiful daughter went to the USA to visit my parents.  I made arrangements for her to bring me back something special.  A bottle of Red Reaper by the Electric Pepper Company.  There is only one ingredient.  Finely powdered Carolina Reaper peppers.  For those of you unfamiliar with these little bundles of flaming death, they are the current world record holder as the hottest known pepper.

Things were very busy with my daughter getting home just before the school year started, so I didn’t get a chance to test out my new pepper powder for a while.  This morning, I was in the middle of an online chat dealing with a huge database crisis at work.  My lovely wife announced that breakfast was ready – steamed jiaozi (Chinese dumplings).   Normally, I like to put a little ghost pepper or scorpion pepper on my dumplings to liven up my breakfast, but the timing to test out the newly acquired reaper powder seemed perfect.

Here’s the online chat I was having with my colleague:

ME:  That’s it.  I can’t take it any more.  The time has come to face the reaper.

HIM: Is this a poetry?

ME:  I’ve acquired a bottle of Carolina Reaper pepper powder and just put some on my breakfast.
Hottest pepper ever.
Goodbye cruel world.

HIM: OK, I’ll tell the database guy that you are not in a rush to fix the problem

ME:  AHHHHHHHHH….. IT BURRRRRNNNSSS!!!!!!!

HIM: Actually he just reported it fixed… I am so sorry you won’t be able to enjoy it.

ME:  AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Already finished eating, but it’s getting HOTTER!!!!!!

Wow, that was fun. I wonder how long until someone comes up with a hotter peppper?

HIM: You are alive? I was planning to pocket the money that I owe you.

ME: It takes more than 2 million Scovilles to kill me.

So, I’ve now survived the ultimate hot pepper, at least until someone comes up with a hotter one.   Now I need to hunt down that Hunan friend of mine and get that hot pepper eating contest rescheduled . . .

This time with Carolina Reaper just to make sure to set her on fire.

If you get a chance to try Carolina Reapers, don’t miss it.  It’s an experience you’ll never forget, assuming you manage to live through it.

Escaped Lunatic

I've been fascinated by China for as long as I can remember. I took a teaching position in Dongguan in 2006-2007 and fell in love with the people and the country. I packed up and moved to China in 2010. I got married to a lovely Chinese lady in 2011. I got my Chinese green card in 2018. For me, life in China is a fun adventure. I hope you enjoy reading about it.
